The British College of Osteopathic Medicine has always been at the forefront of osteopathic practice within the UK and abroad. In 1998 when Parkside Health authority had completed a multi-million pound refurbishment of the old Soho Women's Hospital we were invited to occupy part of the new premises: the ground-breaking Soho Centre for Health and Care.
Although there has been a multi-million pound refit, the essential features of the old hospital remain including original decorative ceramics and a main stairway reputedly constructed from the solid teak timbers of a 19th Century Tea Cutter.
The Centre was planned as a model for inter-professional collaboration within an NHS setting. As well as osteopaths from BCOM the centre includes, amongst others, general practitioners, dentists, drugs counsellors and a Chinese community clinic.
The Clinic staffed by BCOM caters to both the busy working community in bustling Soho as well as those less fortunate individuals who may be otherwise disadvantaged. The clinic has now established a reputation for excellence amongst the local community and is very popular with all our student practitioners.
